Trade union facility time

The council works constructively with recognised trade unions to support effective employee relations and engagement with the workforce. Trade union representatives may be granted reasonable paid time off, known as facility time, to carry out trade union duties in accordance with legislation and local agreements. This can include representing employees, attending consultation meetings, supporting organisational change processes, and undertaking health and safety or learning representative duties.

The Local Government Transparency Code 2015 requires local authorities to publish information annually about trade union facility time.

The information below covers the period 1 April 2025 to 31 March 2026 and includes details of trade union representation and estimated expenditure relating to facility time.
